    Sri Lanka weather April

What’s the weather like in Sri Lanka in April?

Sri Lanka is 30km off the southeast coast of India in the north Indian Ocean. The island nation has a tropical climate with high temperatures all year round. It has two monsoon seasons; the northeast monsoon from October to February, and the southwest monsoon from May to August. This means you'll get quite a bit of rain in April, although there’s a lot less than the two wettest months of the year, May and October. You'll still have plenty of hot and sunny weather at this time though as it doesn't usually rain for too long. The mountainous south-central region has quite a big impact on the weather, as does the warm Indian Ocean and mainland  India. You'll be driest if you're staying on the northwest or southeast coast.

    Averages

The average high in capital Colombo is 32ºC, and things stay nice and warm in the evenings so you won’t need much more than shorts and t-shirts. A waterproof top is a good idea though, as there’s 250mm of rain over 14 days. The sea temperature is a lovely 30ºC, while humidity’s very high. You can expect 12 hours of daylight with eight hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be extremely high so remember your sun cream. Sunset’s around 6.20pm.
