    Sri Lanka weather August

What's the weather like in Sri Lanka in August?

Sitting just 30km off the southeast coast of India, Sri Lanka’s an island nation in the Indian Ocean. It has warm weather all year round due to its tropical climate as well as two monsoon seasons. These are the northeast monsoons from October to February and the southwest’s from May to August. There are mountains in Sri Lanka’s south central region that have quite a big impact on the climate. It’s also affected by the warm sea waters and the Indian subcontinent’s vast landmass. August’s at the end of the southwest monsoon, so you’ll see more rain in the south west of the island at this time. This part of the island in general has more rain while the northwest and southeast coasts are drier. The west coast’s capital Colombo has similar amounts of wet weather during each monsoon.

    Averages

The normal high in capital Colombo is 30ºC in August. This only drops to 25ºC at night meaning it’s still nice and warm in the evenings. The sea temperature’s 28ºC while humidity’s high. There’s 116mm of rain over 11 rainy days and you can expect 12 hours of daylight with six hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be extreme so sun cream is essential. Sunset’s just before 6.30pm.
