Weather in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico enjoys a very warm climate all year round, with temperatures rarely dropping below 18°C even during the winter. The best time to get real use out of the beautiful golden beaches is in the summer, which runs from May to October. The average temperature is around 22°C but the hottest weather arrives in August with highs of 24°C.
Puerto Rico weather is generally mild throughout the year due to mild trade winds blowing in from the northeast. These winds usually blow over the Sahara Desert before reaching Puerto Rico, which is why they often bring warmer weather to the region.
The good weather in Puerto Rico lasts through autumn with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 26°C in October and November. There’s around 11 hours of sunshine per day, which gives you plenty of time to sunbathe on the beach and explore the island.
Rainfall is fairly minimal in the summer with just 9mm of rain per month. It gets slightly damper in October, with 10mm of rain spread over five days of the month. February gets the most rain with around 22mm.
The sea is warm and enjoyable for most of the year. It’s around 20°C in May, which is when the sea is at its coolest. The water begins to warm up towards the summer and early-autumn, with an average sea temperature of 23°C.
