    Algarve weather January

What’s the weather like in the Algarve in January?

The Algarve is in the south of Portugal, close to the coast of North Africa. This means it has a lovely climate that’s still mild in winter. Things are a lot cooler than in the summer, and January’s also one of the wettest months of the year. You'll still get to enjoy the sun and it’s a great time to visit if you prefer things to be quieter. The Algarve has the best of Portugal’s weather, and it’s one of the sunniest destinations in Europe. Mountains to the north will shelter you from Atlantic winds, while you'll be warmest and driest in the east.

    Averages

Faro, the Algarve’s capital, has an average high of 16ºC in January. This is quite warm considering it’s winter, although things do get chilly in the evenings so bring some warmer clothes with you. The sea temperature is 17ºC, while humidity’s low. There’s 97mm of rain over seven days, and you can expect ten hours of daylight with five hours of sunshine each day and low UV levels. Sunset’s around 5.30pm in the first half of the month.
