    Greece weather October

What’s the weather like in Greece in October?

Located in the southeast of Europe and bordered by three oceans, most of Greece’s popular Mediterranean holiday spots enjoy warm weather in October. There’s more rain as summer turns into autumn, but the month’s a great time to book Greece holidays outside the busier summer season.

    Oceans and mountains

Greece is bordered by the Mediterranean, Aegean and Ionian Seas, and has almost 14,000km of coastline because of its islands. The weather’s typically Mediterranean at coastal and popular holiday spots. Most of the country’s mountainous and hilly, with the west wetter than the east because of the Pindus mountain range in the north. You'll get less rain in the south and on the islands, and plenty of sun in October.

    Averages

Athens, in the south of Greece, gives a good guide of the kind of weather you can expect in the country’s popular holiday spots. The capital has an average high temperature of 24ºC in October, which falls to 14ºC at night. You'll be comfortable in shorts and t-shirt during the day, but you should bring some warmer clothes for the evenings. The average sea temperature’s 21ºC, while humidity’s low and ranges from around 45% to as high as 85%. Rain usually falls in short showers, with an average of 53mm over five rainy days.

    Daylight

You can expect 11 hours of daylight in Athens during October, of which seven hours are usually bright sunshine. Despite temperatures starting to cool after summer you should still take care in the sun, with UV levels still moderate. At the start of the month sunset’s around 7.10pm, and 5.30pm at the end of the month because daylight saving ends.
