Weather in Banff

With its location within Banff National Park in Alberta, the region has a subarctic climate that can be quite humid at times. The best time to visit Banff is in the summer when temperatures are warm and there’s more sunshine than previous months. July is the hottest time to visit, with an average high of 24°C. There are 16 hours of sunlight per day in the summer, with the sun rising at around 5.30am and setting at 10pm. It’s not unusual for it to snow on higher grounds in the summer, including the hills of Sulphur Mountain, Cascade Mountain, and Mount Rundle. If you’re a fan of skiing and snowboarding, the best time to go to Banff is in the winter. Make sure to pack your snow boots and lots of layers to stay warm as the region has an average temperature of just -5°C. The Rocky Mountains are laced with a thick blanket of white snow in the winter, which makes it a great destination for a winter holiday. The average snowfall in January is around 30cm with high humidity levels of 89%.
