    What's the weather like in China in February?

    Thanks to China’s size and diverse landscapes, the weather can vary across the country. From soaring mountains to stretches of coastline and vibrant cities, China has it all. February is wintertime across the country, and most parts of China have cold weather at this time. In the capital, Beijing, temperatures are still below freezing, although this time of year is the driest period for the city. There’s more rain in coastal Shanghai, but temperatures are warmer than in Beijing.

    Averages

    In February, the average temperature in Beijing is -2ºC, with highs of 4ºC and lows of -7ºC. With such cold weather, make sure you pack plenty of warm winter clothes including a thick coat, along with a hat, scarf and gloves. You shouldn’t need a waterproof jacket, though, as only 3mm of rain’s expected across February, much less than in Shanghai which has around 60mm forecast. Temperatures are warmer in Shanghai, which has an average of 6ºC at this time, with highs of 9ºC and lows of 2ºC. If you’re going in the sea in February, you’ll need protective clothing such as a drysuit, as the water measures a chilly 8ºC.
