    What's the weather like in China in August?

    China is the world’s fourth largest country and has many different landscapes ranging from deserts to soaring mountains and long coastlines. Although the weather can be very different depending on which part of China you visit, it’s summer in August and this is one of the hottest months of the year across the country. It’s also the wet season for most regions, and some places see quite a lot of rain at this time.

    In Shanghai on the east coast, the average temperature’s 29ºC in August, with highs of 32ºC and lows of 25ºC at night. The East China Sea’s at its warmest this month and measures 27ºC, but you’ll need to plan for some wet weather, as 130mm of rain’s expected over the course of 11 days. Temperatures are similar in Hong Kong on the south coast, but with 280mm of rain this is the wettest month of the year and heavy downpours are common. In the capital, Beijing, the average high reaches 30ºC, but conditions are more comfortable after dark, when there’s a low of 20ºC. The city expects around 180mm of rain spread over 12 days in August.
